1960 Niepoort

Post by jdaw1 »

Wednesday 23rd April 2014, the day before the BFT, the day after A Flight of 1966, and the same day as a vertical of Sandeman arranged by Stevens Garnier (busy week), folks gathered in The Bung Hole for 1960 versus 1963.

20% opacity, red brown. HInts of menthol. Warm entry, menthol in the finish which was not overly long. Very nice though. Incorrectly guessed to be N63.

Mature and sparkling appearance, 50% opaque. Wonderful fragrant nose, attractive and enjoyable. Soft, sweet entry, restrained and not showing a lot of fruit. But the fruit develops and grows to wonderful levels on the late palate and with still substantial tannins. A lovely finish of tremendous length. A delicious mid-weight port. 94/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
