2000 Berry Brothers (Smith Woodhouse)
Full rich powerful cherry-led port with drying tannins. Straightforwardly pleasurable despite its youth.

Consumed 2/2/22.

Smith Woodhouse. Deep red colour just starting to hint at a brick tone; 95% opaque. Rich blackcurrant fruit which comes across as a little restrained, subtle and layered. Smooth entry with generous sweet fruit. Good grip on the palate with the powerful tannins seizing hold firmly and a good acidity keeping the bramble fruit fresh and bright. Rich and very persistent on the finish. A lovely youthful Port drinking well. 92/100. Drunk 02-Feb-22. Decanted 8½ hours.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
