2000 Cockburn: Dark red, with a hint of purple, with a bigger nose than the ’03 — though I failed to record of what. To taste much red cherry, and a vegetal something, though less so than the ’03.

A delicate cherry nose. Soft in the mouth with chocolate. Very well balanced.

Deep red colour, deep on the rim. Closed on the nose, not much coming through other than mint and menthol. Sweet bramble or mulberry fruit in the mouth and with less structure than the 2003; less focussed and not so texturally pleasing. Very good aftertaste. Pleasant wine which may get much better in the future. 88/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Miguel Côrte-Real sent AHB some of his own notes on the various vintages, some obviously drafted in advance, some from the day itself.

Generic Information
All the Port houses declared this excellent year.

Year/Viticulture
Mild and dry winter but spring quite rainy what made a lot of colour. It was obvious to every-body we were facing a small production but with an enormous quality.

Tasting Notes
Deep and dark. Aromas of violets and blackberries. Full-bodied palate, with big but smooth tannins. Slightly dry finish, in the style of our best made vintages.

Other
+95 from Robert Parker, second place in 50 Vintages and Single Quinta Vintages made in 2000.

Last minute notes
Solid, ripe, complete. Blueberry aromas. Massive and concentrated.

MC-R notes
9.5/10
