1975 Cockburn vintage port

Post by AHB » 14:07 Tue 02 Feb 2010

Pale red / orange in colour (poor lighting); vry light and transparent centre. Huge nose of choclate oranges and marmalade but with an interesting twist of rose perfume. Slighltly hollow entry, slow to develop in the mouth but patience rewards with lovely fruit and plenty of bittler orange. A touch of heat on the aftertaste, which settles quickly to a soft and sweet lebgth of red licorice. Better weight than the Martinez 1975 shown alongside. 85/100. Drunk 1 Feb 2010 after 2 hours decanting.
Top Ports in 2018 (so far): Niepoort VV (1960's Bottling), Quinta do Noval Nacional 1994 and San Leonardo Very Old White (Bottled 2018)
2017 Ports of the year: Fonseca 1927 and Quinta do Noval 1927

Slightly redder than the Mz75. Astringent-tastic. Heat on tongue. Later vanilla? Or mint? More likeable improving.

Hints of vanilla and dark cherries on the nose. Fairly light in the mouth -- I got almost a cinnamon component about half way through. Someone also chimed in with red liquorices, which struck a chord. Lightweight, but not stupid. I would have been temped to write something like 'a burgundy lover's kind of port' -- except the person who liked it most hates burgundy. [shrug.gif] 85
