Apostoles

Is it ok to mention a sherry in this section?

Recently spotted in my local Sainsburys-
Apostoles Palo Cortado 30yo, 37.5cl Muy Viejo reduced to £6.30

I took a gamble and grabbed the last three bottles, very glad I did. Just 'off-dry' with a bright, complex, nutty piquancy. Delicious.

On offer at Sainsburys, £5.99 I didn’t bother with this last year, I think it was because it failed to excite anyone on this forum. Fletcher's @ Aldi?

This Christmas Aldi is offering Fletcher's 10yo Tawny Port for £7.99 (75cl).

Anyone familiar with Fletcher's?

Aldi do bring out some decent wines over the Christmas period (and throughout the year), worth checking out if you generally avoid the place.

Perhaps there is an opportunity to establish fortified elderberry wine as a UK speciality, the fruit seems to enjoy our climate.

I intend to make more later this year, only this time I will stop the fermentation properly, as apposed to back-sweetening existing wine I have no plan to drink.

Ask yourself, how often do you simply stand and stare at your wine rack?

Nurse! the blinds!

Me- 50% red, 30% white, 10% port (mostly LBV), 5% sherry, 5% fizz. Roughly x250 bottles. I also have around 100 bottles of homemade wine that I rarely drink, most gets given away.

I have recently bottled my first homemade port, Elderberry (with a little blackberry for backbone). All from a single estate (field) close to where I live. When you ‘stand’ your VP prior to opening, do any of you lean the bottle at an angle, say 45deg?

I wonder if having the sediment gather in the ‘cradle’ of the bottle base (one half) rather than an equal share around the base offers less disturbance to the sediment when you come to decant.
