And just a little correction... Vesuvio was not made in 1993.

It's strange that a 2000 LBV shows a sediment that resmbles coffee grind - normally, all modern LBVs are filtered before bottling. I never saw any sediment in a recent (and modern) LBV so far. As for Vintage Port, it almost always builds sediment on the bottom side of the bottle (if laid down). The ...

Finally the Symingtons woke up

It seems that they finally woke up! As a regular visitor to their "Vintage Port Site", I kept reading the message about a re-design and new launch of that website for quite some time (a few months, in fact). Well, it seems that the long wait has paid off, at least I liked what I saw. Lots ...

Ok, So I've succumbed to the devil's temptation and tried some of that pink... something. If you ask me, I didn't find it at all disgusting, as some of you said it was. The nose is somewhat "medical" and reminded me of some sort of cough-syrup I had in my younger days. On the palate the al...

I know it's a painful process, but if you visit Wine Spectator's website (http://www.winespectator.com) and browse through their tasting notes, you might come across some helpful descriptors.

Re: White port

...I had forgotten its existence for a couple of years. OK - that, to me, is a clear indicator that you should give that bottle to your worst enemy. Nothing wrong with forgetting about bottles for a couple of years  but if you're talking about a white Port, it will most probably be no good by...

This is the information that I found from a shipper. It basically confirms all of the above: "Crusted is a blend of excellent young ports from two or three harvests, bottled without any fining or filtration. The legislation only allows the bottling date to feature on the label. These Ports were...

Go for it. The Graham's LBV is my favourite concern-breaker, when I try to get people to like portwine (and never failed). It's a solid, fruity and fairly deep LBV. Axel I agree, it's a very consensual entry-level wine that will surely stimulate your appetite for premium Port  . The price is ...

I became a Port lover the moment an "expert" took an hour or two to let me in on the basics of Port, explaining the differences between ruby and tawny/wood and bottle-aged Port. All of this backed by a massive tasting - a glass of each category. All in all, there must have been two dozen g...

Absolutely right, Conky!

Thanks for the additional info. I will try to post a picture of the bottle.

It's funny to see how label design has evolved.

I have a Barros 1912 Colheita at home. Although I feel tempted to open it and see whether it is still any good, I was wondering how much such a bottle could be sold for?

Re: General Info about Vesuvio

(Ladies and) Gents, Dominics personal favourite is the 97 Vesuvio though he insisted on this being an unfair question. I found it fairly hard to judge the potential of the 97 because to me it was a fairly late developed 97, which - of course - could be a very good sign as well, as it appeared to me...
