NV Cockburn Special Reserve
Bought from Waitrose a few days before being opened. Garnet red in colour with about 90% opacity. Nosing of sweet rose perfume and fat blackberries, this smells as though it will be overly sugary but the flavours which flow onto the palate have a pleasing level of acidity. The acidity keeps the flavours fresh and focused and highlight the bramble and blueberry fruit. The tannins are resolved on the palate but show as a hint of cocoa on the finish, which follows a gentle aftertaste of sweet raspberries. Light bodied but nicely flavoursome this has lasted well with its extended decant in the bottle. 86/100. Drunk 01-Mar-17.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
