1994 Warre LBV
Deep mature red appearance, the colour of black cherry juice with a wide rim and an opaque centre. Rather hollow on the nose, but served at around 8C so too cold to have opened up, just a slight medicinal tone. On the palate this brings good complexity with a combination of acidic cherry juice, dark chocolate tannins but also traces of tropical fruit such as pineapple and coffee beans. The acidity plays gently on the back of the throat on the aftertaste, but this fades quickly to allow a peppercorn liveliness to play on the cheeks and lips before a long black licorice and dried cherry finish of good power and length. Possibly suffering a little from the overly long decant, but still very good. 85/100. Drunk 01-Mar-17.
