I've just got back from Waitrose, where even I was unable to resist the price of the Sandeman 2011 LBV @ £11. Other discounts included Graham 10yo @ £16, Taylor 10yo @ £17, Noval 10yo @ £20, Sandeman 20yo @ £30, Taylor Chip Dry White @ £10.63, Cavadinha 2002 @ £23.23, Cockburn Special Reserve @ £8, Taylor 2010 LBV @ £10.50, Fonseca Guimaraens 1998 @ £24, Graham 2011 LBV @ £10. All with a further discount if bought as 6 mixed bottles.

I've just received Tanner's latest newsletter through the post. Included with it was a flysheet giving details of their winter sale. Currently they are offering Churchill 2008 LBV @ £14 per bottle (inclusive of VAT).

It's actually better than that-their email says £12.50 a bottle and this is reflected on their website. Am tempted particularly as I will be in Shrewsbury in early February.AHB wrote:I've just received Tanner's latest newsletter through the post. Seckfords have just sent out their weekly stock update, which includes 2 six packs of Morgan 1991 @ £180 for 6 ib
This is only the third time I have seen Morgan 1991 offered on the secondary market since we bought 72 cases of it in 2009 and drunk approximately 71.8 of those cases.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Browsing Marks and Spencer's today I notice they have an own brand 2011 port. It looks like Skeffington and at £26 it is not a bad price. They did a 25% off if you buy 6 recently (and interestingly 20% off 3 bottles) which would put it under £20/bottle which they are bound to repeat sooner or later. If I had not forsworn buying port which I was unlikely to live to drink I might have been tempted. I was quite impressed all round with their range of wine, not cheap but not expensive either.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
From a mailing by a 'fine wine specialist' in my inbox this morning:
Kopke
One of the greatest producers of port since the 17th century. With their wide range of vinyards throughout the Douro, Kopke is one of the largest suppliers of Port wines in the world!
What nonsense...Niepoort
Niepoort has been founded by a Dutchman in 1842 and has focused its attention on the production of Vintage port wines. Niepoort succeeds to make very light and fruity port wines dispite the high temperatures.

Sainsbury have their "buy 6 get 25% off" sale going again. Particular port deals I spotted were Sainsbury Taste The Difference Vintage Port 2003 (SFE) @ £20 discounted to £15 if you buy a mixed six and Graham Crusted bottled 2011 already discounted down to £15 so roughly £13 per bottle in a mixed six.

Same offer noted here except that the TTD2003 was not discounted; only the Grahams Crusted (also currently 2011 at this location).AHB wrote: ↑13:18 Wed 31 May 2017 Sainsbury have their "buy 6 get 25% off" sale going again. Sorry, my poor phrasing. The TTD2003 is priced at £20 with no discounts. Buy 6 bottles and you get the 25% discount on the TTD2003 which brings it down to £15. That's £15 for a stonkingly good bottle of vintage port people (unless the blend is different from last time, of course).PhilW wrote: ↑07:49 Thu 01 Jun 2017Same offer noted here except that the TTD2003 was not discounted; only the Grahams Crusted (also currently 2011 at this location).AHB wrote: ↑13:18 Wed 31 May 2017 Sainsbury have their "buy 6 get 25% off" sale going again. Thanks for the heads up- the local Saintsbury to the office still has the 2002 Graham's Crusted and so took the last four bottles (they also had the 98 TTD VP).AHB wrote: ↑13:18 Wed 31 May 2017 Sainsbury have their "buy 6 get 25% off" sale going again. Berry's have just launched their summer sale.
Included in the discounted lines are the following ports:
Dow 1970 - discounted by 20% to £88 (prices quoted are per single and are inclusive of duty and VAT unless otherwise stated)
Delaforce 1977 in magnum - discounted 30% to £150
Martinez 1994 - discounted by 20% to £48
Vesuvio 2011 in methuselah - discounted by 30% to £600
I leave readers to decide whether to pull the trigger and buy — or not.

Sainsbury is running its buy 6 and get 25% off again (until just after the BH). The TTD2003 still at my local at £15 (with the reduction).
Re: Port for sale by retailer
My local Tesco (Horwich, Bolton) had a couple bottles of Dow's quinta do bomfin reduced to clear from £27 down to £21.73 and I picked up the last bottle of 2005.
So just a heads up really there might be a few bottles left in your local stores

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Waitrose turn for a discounted offer but only three bottles required to save 25%. Looking at the 2011VP showing on-line, this makes the SW2011 £200 for 6 (better than the on release price).

I've received a £30 off voucher for use at Majestic Wines which I'm not going to use. It's valid on any purchase in-store or online with a value of £100+ and expires on 2 October.
If anyone would like the voucher then please let me know and I can either give you the details by PM or bring it with me on Thursday.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
In the last month, my local Waitrose has gone from having Sandeman 2011 LBV, to briefly stocking the 2012 LBV (bottled 2016) and just a week later has already moved to the 2013 LBV (bottled 2017). I am not sure if that is because for most of that period it has been on sale at 25% off or just over £12 and so stocks having been rapidly turning over. It does seem strange that the 2012 was barely available in this particular store. The 2011 is a beast that will last years, the 2012 was much more approachable for drinking now, a silky smooth fruit bomb. And the 2013 is back to being a tannic beast, but maybe not as much as the 2011 is. Also of note is that both the 2012 and 2013 have the new Sandeman label design style.

Bargain Warre’s Otima 20YO
If you like a tawny, check your local Lidl for a clearance special on Warre’s Otima 20YO (500ml). The shelf ticket will state £19.99 but at the till they come up on a clearance price of £7.99. I just relieved my local Lidl of 3 bottles for £23.97 giving a Mag worth of 20YO tawny for more than a tenner less than a standard bottle of Sandeman 20YO, Taylor’s 20YO or Graham’s 20YO. Personally I don’t think the Otima is quite up to the level of those three, but it is amazing value nonetheless.

I am sure most of you are aware, but just in case... the annual Christmas port offering from Aldi has hit the shelves this week. It is much the same as last year, with the following available whilst stocks last:
40YO Maynard's Aged mid-tawny port 750ml: £29.99 (Great value bottle but can anyone shed any light on the 'mid-tawny' term as I haven't come across it)
1992 Maynard's LBV (Unfiltered) 750ml: £19.99
10YO Maynard's Tawny 750ml: £9.99
2013 Maynard's LBV (Unfiltered) 750ml: £9.99
Maynard's Pink Port 500ml: £7.99
Maynard's Finest Reserve Ruby Porto 200ml: £4.99

Re: Port for sale by retailer
The 40yo is scarcer than hen's teeth round here-I went to two Aldi's the day after release only to find the allocation had already gone; the other Aldi close to work doesn't appear to have received an allocation (yet). If anyone sees one could they perhaps pick it up for me please?Doggett wrote: ↑13:36 Sat 18 Nov 2017 I am sure most of you are aware, but just in case... the annual Christmas port offering from Aldi has hit the shelves this week. I know it is poor planning to mention a port on the forum before buying it but I note that the Wine Society is offering 2000 LBV Warre at £23/bottle. Not an absolute steal but it has a few more years on it than most of those available in supermarkets and the like. They have probably been reading Alex's rave reviews of the older ones. Leave me half a dozen to go with my usual Pol Roger Christmas order please.

I managed to track down a branch of Aldi which had some bottles of the Maynard 1992 LBV in stock (available through their website too).
I've given up trying to find a bottle of the mythical 40YO tawny @ £30 but I did also buy a "Maynard 100 Years of Port" pack consisting of 4 x 20cl bottles containing 10YO, 20YO, 30YO and 40YO tawny.
More ports I've not tasted before.

I tried 3 bottles of the 1992 Maynard LBV from last year when released at Christmas. The first bottle was nothing to write home about, but I thought the next 2 that I had were fantastic and well worth the £20 so late have bought a couple more from the release this year.

1960s to 1980s bin ends at Berrys’ Basingstoke
Good evening everyone,
Every now and then, Berrys’ seems to empty a port bin somewhere and put the rather shabby looking bottles on sale at the warehouse shop in Basingstoke. When I was there yesterday, there were a few dozen bottles from 1970 and 1977, together with a few from the 1960s and some from the 1980s. One thing I noticed was that they had both Portugal-bottled and Berrys’-bottled Taylor 1970.
Later,
John

Anyone looking for a bargain could take a look at Berry’s warehouse shop in Basingstoke. Magnums of Taylor 1977 @ £400 and of BBR Own Blend 2011 for £88. Both duty paid.
I managed to resist. It wasn’t hard.

Sainsbury in Bracknell have reduced prices on Graham Crusted b2012, now £12, and Taste the Difference 2003 vintage port, now £18.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

I noticed that my Sainsbury’s was now stocking GM05 rather than 04.

Unfortunately I don't think that fortified wines are included in the sale this time. Sainsbury's also did not have them in 25% off sale a few weeks ago and Tesco haven't for some time. However M&S, which also have a buy 6 and get 25% off do seem to have included fortified wines. Not sure about the Asda offer.

Waitrose online included fortified. I mulled a little then bought a few more QdVesuvio 2011 at £45. My lack of willpower is legendary.
Re: Port for sale by retailer
Yes, was in Waitrose earlier and it certainly doesn't apply in store-which is a little naughty imo.

Waitrose online does include fortifieds. I bought 6 bottles of Noval 2015 Bin 08 QT (the equuivalent of Noval Silval 2015) for £37.50 per bottle, duty paid. Some of you may have seen the empty at the B&F in the Red Room (that wasn't mine - that's how I found out about this particular wine).

My local Tesco has just stocked its shelves with the new Tesco Finest Vintage Port, this one is also from the Symingtons but is now the 2007 vintage. Still £20 a bottle (at full price). Next to it is the Malvedos 2004, currently reduced from £27.50 to also be £20 per bottle.
