Bought by the glass from Bar Douro in Flat Iron Square @ £14 for a generous pour. Dark red with brick tones, 90% opaque. Deep bramble fruit on the nose with some brown sugar overtones. The bramble fruit is smooth and slightly jammy but with a balancing acidity on entry; tannins with a slight green hint show on the mid-palate and become quite woody. A little harsh on the late palate, which leads to a harsh and aggressive aftertaste where the tannins dominate the start of the finish. Overall, a pleasant port that is drinking quite well today but which paled when compared against the Cockburn 1977 also drunk that night. 87/100. Drunk 03-May-17.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
