1966 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Opened for lunch at a seafood restaurant in Matsosinhos.

Lovely dark red colour, still 90% opaque. On the nose this has a lovely tone of mature but still youthful port combining open sweet fruit with full floral perfume. The palate is wonderful with generous levels of fruit and tannins which are firm in tehir grip. These deliver a fabulous aftertaste which is elegant, balanced and intensely persistent. If this bottle is typical of the vintage, this wine will outlive me. Absolutely fabulous port. 96/100. 21-Jun-17. Decanted 4½ hours.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.

2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports, except a good bottle of Fonseca 1927. Wow!
