1983 Warre
A half bottle acquired at auction but identified from the label as having been imported by James Nicholson of Crossgar. Deep garnet, very dark; 80% opaque. Powerful nose of dark cherry and black licorice. Huge entry, surprisingly dry but stuffed frull of fragrant black cherry. Lots of charcoal tannins on the mid-palate give a big mouthful of port. Lively and well balanced – and surprisingly youthful. A big, juicy aftertaste and a massive finish, full of flowers and black winegums. Very impressive port. 92/100. 08-Jul-17. Decanted 1 day.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports, except a good bottle of Fonseca 1927. Wow!
