1985 Calem

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at a Blind Emergency on 1st August 2017.

Mid red colour, a touch pale; perhaps a little cloudy giving an opacity of 50%. A slight touch of VA on the nose but little else. Balanced entry, initially lacking fruit but baked fruit develops until some of the VA comes through and starts to dominate. Sweet star fruit and redcurrant jelly show nicely on the late palate. The aftertaste is of fresh-baked biscuits with the finish of red cherry biscuits. Great length on the long, dry finish. Served blind this was guessed to be Croft 1985. 85/100. 01-Aug-17. Decanted 12½ hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Cá85, brought by IDJ. Red, 50% opaque. Dry early palate. Medium-light; then grows in the mouth. Raspberry, but not prune; drying out.
