Brick red, 90% opaque. Sweet and fruity nose with lots of fresh redcurrant — fruit that is slightly sour yet very fragrant. Frangrant entry with lots of flavour but the fruit is very sour, delivering a big core of acidity. The lovely fragrance comes back markedly on the late palate mixed in with the continuing sour fruit theme. The aftertaste is dusty, adding texture to the sour fruit which lingers on into the good length finish. A very interesting sour-fruit style of port that is pleasant, will be long-lived but which should reward another decade or three in the cellar. 85/100. 3 hour decant.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
