1994 Dow

Bought by the glass from the Boot & Flogger, using their Coravin.

Deep red, some brick tones. Lovely fruit nose, red cherry and a little mace. Pronounced and powerful. Lots of cherry and purple plum fruit; a surprising but lovely sweetness to the fruit. The tannins are form but match beautifully with the fruit. A lovely balance, but big and burly rather than elegant and harmonious. There are many layers to the palate, but none of them have yet developed the subtleties expected of mature Port. The aftertaste is full of licorice or aniseed and the finish is just astonishing in length and complexity. It goes on and on and never ends, even after a 30 minute train journey. This is a fabulous Port from a fabulous vintage. 95/100. Drunk 27-Feb-2019.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
