NV Taylor Ruby (First Estate)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

This represented a very interesting opportunity to compare and contrast the NV Croft Finest Reserve (and Triple Crown) against the Taylor First Estate. The Croft is sweet, rounded and full of lush fruit. The Taylor is much more structured and austere, with the fruit being steely and full of minerality rather than being sweet and lush.

Deep red, a touch of purple on the edge. A beautiful and expressive nose that is full of blackcurrants. Lovely balance on entry; mouthfilling. A delicious palate. There is a slight (and enjoyable) astringency to the fruit on the finish. A nice contrast to the softer and rounder style of the Croft Ruby Ports. 85 14-Mar-19.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
