90% opacity, dark purple. Pepper and dark fruit on the nose. Smooth, tannic entry, fruit quite sweet & soft, plums. Strange, given the colour, but seems already more mature than the 00/03/07.

Broadbent Ports are made by Dirk Niepoort, but from blends specially selected for Bartholomew Broadbent. Around 300 cases are made of each vintage and are available in the UK through Top Selections.

Deep purple in colour, opaque. When decanted this showed lots of wonderful fruit on the nose but closed down while sitting in the glass. The palate shows plenty of fruit, but the fruit is dominated by the big, chunky tannins. A lovely purity and complexity comes out of this Port with lots of layers of flavour and a beautiful focus on the big blackcurrant fruit. Masses of bitter, dry blackcurrant skins dominate the finish of dark chocolate. This is a huge and very impressive Port. 93/100. Decanted 6 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
