1970 Dow

Post by winesecretary »

Very pretty red. Slightly dumb on nose. In the mouth a full throated, spicy, dry port, typically Dow. Very good. Tasted blind at B&F 9 January 2020. Courtesy NAC. Equal #3 WOTN.

35% opacity, wonderful ruby red. Rich nose, red fruit and candy. Cherries. Smooth rich mouthfeel, sweet red fruit, cherries and cranberries.

A fine sediment sits at the bottom of the mature rose red wine; 70% opaque. Dusty roses and red cherry on the nose, very fragrant. A nice texture on the mouthful of fragrant fruit. Young, but with the rough edges rounded off - this is fruity and with a lovely structure. There is a very pleasant fragrance to the aftertaste and finish. A wonderful balanced wine and with such elegant fruit. Served blind, this was guessed to be Warre 1994.
93/100. Tasted 09-Jan-20. Decanted 14 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
