1995 Taylor Vargellas

Post by winesecretary »

70% opaque. Full rich dark young spicy port with cherry and chocolate on the palate. Very nice. [The twelfth wine of the night, between nine persons; notes were getting shorter and less determinate.] Tasted blind at B&F 9 January 2020. Courtesy CPR. Wonderful to compare and contrast with the TVVV of the same vintage.

Opened at 22.00, decanted at 07.00 and tasted at 19.20. Tasted blind, this was believed to be identical to the wine which was believed to be Marks & Spencer 2007 Vintage Port but which was later declared to be Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha 1995. Very acidic on the palate, but fruity and pleasant despite this. 88/100. Tasted 09-Jan-20. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
