Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
In the spirit of trying something a bit different, who fancies bringing a blinded VP to 67 Pall Mall on Tuesday 25th Feb?
Table for 6 booked from 1800, so kick-off at 1830.
Have managed to secure the best table in the house - The Wine Library.
Just so people are aware, there's a £20/bottle corkage charge and you should probably expect dinner to come to around £50.
Sample menu here - https://www.67pallmall.com/the-london-c ... arte-menu/
The dress code is fairly relaxed - ties not required but jackets are.
The list:
1. NAC
2. AHB
3. MPM
4. IDJ
5. JDAW (permission to attend received)
6. GEAG
Reserves:
1. Christopher
2. Alex M

Will do. Might be able to get an extra (or two) around the table. I'll check...

Note that "permission" for JDAW to attend this event has now been formally requested via approved channels.
Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
Permission granted. And I understand that, since it isn't my husband asking, it isn't my husband's fault.

Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
I had hoped to be able to confirm I would attend, but this is currently looking less and less likely to be possible. Reluctantly therefore, I should now step aside and let someone else take my spot.

For placemats and seating arrangements are any attendees left-handed?

Draft placement - please check...
How do I upload the PDF?
Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
Nice job for your first placemat
A3 landscape might be a challenge on that wine library table...I wonder if making it portrait and forcing the glasses into a rectangle down the side would work better? So each person would have a placemat to their side and then space for a plate in front of them?

I think most of us host the pdf on our own web server and then link to it.

Good point. People are wider than an A3. If there isn’t room for an A3, there isn’t room for us.

Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
Is there any etiquette we need to observe when visiting 67 Pall Mall in terms of the wine(s) we bring or you would like us to bring?
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
Julian I think the wine library table is long enough to allow a portrait A3 and a place for a plate setting for each person. So rather than traditional glasses sheet in front of the plate, it will be to one side. There is definitely no room to have the glasses pages in front of the plate setting - the table is not deep enough.

Perhaps an outing for archway layout on A3(landscape)+A4(portrait)?

Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
No special etiquette. You can bring ready decanted or ask them to do it when you arrive.
The table is booked from 1800, but I'll aim to get there 1730ish (if not earlier). I'll book you all in as guests.
Our table is on the ground floor. I'll either be there or at the bar (which is pretty much next to the table).

Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
Mike is correct. The table is plenty wide enough for us, but not particularly deep. I'll print the placemats both portrait and landscape so we can see what works best.flash_uk wrote: ↑22:33 Tue 18 Feb 2020Julian I think the wine library table is long enough to allow a portrait A3 and a place for a plate setting for each person. Bottles decanted at 0600 this morning. Unsure about quality of first choice, so a backup has been chosen.

My bottle was opened Audouze-style at 22.00 yesterday and decanted at 11.00 today.
Looks and smells delicious. And a tiny sip tasted delicious.

Placemats have been printed - in both landscape and portrait (to ensure we make optimal use of space), with changes to /PackingStyles as suggested by Mike.

Bottle decanted at 0600 this morning. Some seepage, cork having started to fail in transit. Decanting sample tasted admirable but colour a bit light. Not sure. Unopened backup half bottle has been packed, in case primary choice has deteriorated, or if we run out of port.

My bottle decanted at 0715. Couldn’t get much from the nose so hopefully fine.
Re: Emergency (@ 67 Pall Mall) - Tues 25 Feb 2020
My bottle decanted at 6.45am. Have high hopes for this one. Will be a little held up as a result of a fatality on the line.
