Dienhard bottling. Purchased from a family friend for a fair price from a stash that had been in storage for 40 years.
Cork crumbled on removal.
Initial taste, strong, phenol like, a bit over powering and clearly needing a long decant.
D+10hrs.
Exceptional port. Smooth. Lots of vanilla both in smell and taste. Blackberries. Tannins fully integrated.
I think this will last a fair few decades yet but it now entering a fantastic drinking window.
95 points with potential for more in the coming decade.
I only wish I had it in magnums.

'77 seems to be in a great place at the moment, and the Taylor I'm particularly liking. It's a pity the prices seem to have shot up recently.

That '77 may be in a great place, Taylor perhaps in particular, and prices having moved up, I would suggest might be connected factors...

Taylor 1977 can be a fabulous Port. Glad you had a good bottle.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
