Level excellent; cork loose in neck once layers of plastic shrink-wrap removed. Wine looks like Turkish delight; a slightly dusky damask rose shade. Pale orange rim.
+ 30 mins: slightly musty nose, not quite clean, some light spirity notes with a slightly disjointed blackcurrant iceberg element underneath. Better and more coherent in the mouth but still quite short. Possibly a faulty bottle: will put it aside to see if it comes together.
+ 22 hours in a decanter kept English-country-house cool (circa 14 degrees celsius): colour fined up, now a nice garnet; nose now clean but very faint, virtually nothing to report; a rather lovely sweet rose hip front palate, fading very gently and slowly to a poached cherry cobbler finish. Tannins completely resolved, no heat at all. Now lovely sipping port. Hurrah!
+45 hours in a decanter kept English-country-house cool (circa 14 degrees celsius): colour still fine; nose still very faint; front palate sweet fruits but fading, bitter finish, almost grapefruit. Should have drunk it up yesterday. Don't keep this one too long, folks.
