Burnt orange fading quite strongly almost to green, although the wine is notably darker than the Fonseca 20 YO Tawny. After decanting for an hour, the wine suddenly opened up with hugely complexity on the nose. Strong toffee, a little burnt orange; perhaps some butter, even. In the mouth, good acidity brings through an immediate sensation of caramelised oranges. The balance of sugar against the acidity is excellent, however. No real fresh fruit left or tannin but a very lengthy aftertaste, full of citrus fruit. Extremely enjoyable.

* A Note on Ratings
My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are rated against others of their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port which I rate as C for Certainly good, might not be as good as a Vintage Port which receives the same rating. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
