NV Stanton & Killeen: Classic Rutherglen Muscat

To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

NV Stanton & Killeen: Classic Rutherglen Muscat

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Average age of the wines in the blend is 12 years.

Deep polished rosewood in colour, 90% opaque. Quite restrained on the nose with the fragrant and perfumed Turkish Delight, sweet but floral. Soft and smooth entry, thick with gentle muscvado sugar and a distinct Christmas Pudding complexity. Rich and perfumed aftertaste with hints of black coffee and maple syrup. A little flash of acidity and a very suprising dryness. Great chewy finish, just like sucking on a crystallised raisin. 92/100. Drunk 10-Dec-20.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
