Tasted on 14/01/21 - +8hr decant
A deep red colour, pretty much fully opaque. A deep winter red fruit nose - you can smell the sugar in this. Just by the nose, I cant really pinpoint this down to anything in particular. Taste wise, a huge inital blackcurrant hit which fades after a few seconds. The tannins are quite large, gripping the mouth plus a good hit of heat. Interesting notes of something I can only describe as "burnt citrus skins" (Rich suggested clementine which, on thought, I'm inclined to agree with) linger as a slightly acrid aftertaste - I say acrid, perhaps bitter is more accurate. I'm usually quite against this but I don't particularly care and I have no real idea why.
A really pleasant LBV and I'd rate it higher than most other LBVs (bar Van Zellers 2013, perhaps Sandeman 2015) from the last several years. Being a fan of young ports, beats a good few (single quinta) vintage ports as well.
Checking the receipt, I paid £9 - absolute bargain and a half.
