I didn't confirm but I'll definitely be drinking the ruby reserve for this tasting.

Alex - I've selected a bottle of the Crusted, bottled in 2006.

Alex, apologies for late response.

AHB, CPR, JDAW, GEAG, PW and NAC will have Vintage 91, Agua Alta 95, Gricha 05 and Gricha 09 (Club Release) + whatever else they’re opening themselves.

The tasting with Churchill has been postponed to later in the year. Keep an eye on this thread, however, in case we are able to find an alternative host.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

I think we should go ahead with our meet up as by the time we reschedule we will have received at least one other part of our Port Club offering so we will be able to have an even wider selection to choose from.

The two people I approached to substitute for Johnny at short notice are not able to do so.

I’ll issue an invite today for TPF Zoom Tasting #4 of 2021. The theme will change to one of “Any fortified wine you want to drink.” Which works for me since I have a bottle of Blandy’s 2004 Malvasia on death row.

Sounds like a plan.

The bottles I’d opened to share with some other TPFers have been decanted into smaller 20cl bottles, capped with argon, and stuck in the fridge. Hopefully they’ll survive until the rearranged tasting. Hopefully the samples sent out have also / will also survive?

Is the plan for this to occur tomorrow at the time previously scheduled for the Churchill tasting? And has the invite been sent? (I have not received it yet.)

I have some leftovers from Sunday evening that I'll finish off for this tasting.

Attachments are misbehaving. I can't remove the extra copy of the glasses pic without the bottle pic also disappearing. When first posted (after placing the attachments inline and using preview, which displayed correctly), the bottle pic disappeared and there was a message that said the attachment was no longer available. When edited to re-add the bottle pic, the above happened.

I’ve had the same issue when posting with multiple attachments. I think it’s an underlying problem with the phpBB software.

I have one left. They're very difficult to find because I think they are made specially for an importer in Denmark, so not available anywhere else.

But even more drool-worthy, I have one of the old ones left, too, circa 2011. The "40" is red on the old labels, and the old bottles were 3-4 points better than the new ones in my opinion.

I’m afraid something has come up and I may not be able to join you tonight. I hope that doesn’t cause any inconvenience, especially since I think the plan is just for an informal session. If it does, I apologise.

The date of Wednesday 28th April has been suggested as the replacement for our postponed meeting in February.

Any strong objections?

I have just opened the one bottle I have in London of the '98 ChAA. Quite stinky right now. I will have to retrieve another before this tasting. Or just stick with the four other Churchills I have in the 'fridge.

I actually did save the ruby reserve for this but also still have some of the 20 yo tawny in the fridge. Whether that will survive is yet to be seen, of course.

I still have the remains of the bottles that were sent out as samples - 1991 Vintage, Agua Alta 1995, Gricha 2005, Gricha 2009 - so I'll go with those.
Will be interesting to see how they've held up.

A quick question for those in the know, should the ruby reserve be decanted in advance? I'm aware it probably isn't a requirement to do much more than open it an hour or two in advance but if it'll help improve it I'll happily do so.

@ rich_n - it will surely do the ruby no harm to give it a fair bit of air. Maybe double decant the day before and shove it in the fridge?

Having drunk my last bottle of the Ch82 for the last-planned date, I will go with the kindly-provided group samples of Vintage 91, Agua Alta 95, Gricha 05 and Gricha 09 (Club Release), and may or may not open a Ch85 as well.
