It does come with the cork stopper/pourer to make it easy. A bit heavy to start I presume. Will get easier as it gets lighter. Or harder lolJacobH wrote:This seems like a great idea for a party. I've been thinking of getting one for a long while to use at my new house warming party. Well, the now not so new house (moved in last year two days before lockdown started). Now that things are improving on the Covid front, I threw caution to the wind and got one. At some point this summer it will be opened at the, now very late, house warming gathering...when we're allowed more people to gather that is.
I presume a side-effect of pandemics is that a whole load of long straws through the neck like some Sumerian ale is off-the-cards?

Yes, finally got around to counting and organising all the Casa do Douro colheitas.

That's an incredible haul! I'm fascinated by those very old colheitas, they could be nectar or paint thinner...MigSU wrote:Yes, finally got around to counting and organising all the Casa do Douro colheitas.

I am a 1964 baby and am always on the lookout for 1964 Ports, especially ones that I've never seen before.
I have no idea how we would pull of a transaction seeing as I'm in Seattle, WA, USA, but I would love to figure something out!

One of the 64's was a leaker, had it today. Level was below the shoulder, so the wine most likely wasn't showing its best side. Was a perfectly agreeable colheita, nothing spectacular but quite pleasurable to sip. The VA was in line with these kinds of Ports.
No. But my grandmother was, like pretty much all Douro grape farmers at the time, a member of CdD, do when they released these she apparently went a bit overboard with her desire to help them out. Also her uncle was the first president of the CdD, so that might've played a part.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑19:44 Wed 19 May 2021 I should have asked earlier. Did someone in your family used to work at the Casa do Douro?
Yes, that might prove challenging (at least at a price point that makes sense to both of us). I'll make some inquiries, if you'd like.

Do they still have large holdings? I am sure I remember reading something about the CdD more recently but can’t remember what it was.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑03:35 Thu 20 May 2021Perhaps![]()
And I know a few people on these two Port forums, TPF & FTLOP, who've also helped the CdD by buying some of these. I remember trying to take a picture of the large banner in the entryway that showed how much quantity of Port for each year they held. The security guard wasn't amused and stopped me...then why have a large banner in the entryway

I’m sure you can find a “click and collect” option would work. Although even Glenn might struggle to look innocent as he walks past US customs with 53 bottles of wine tucked into his trouser legs…

Some years ago Riedel did a range of decanters called Dominus. These came in the standard bottle and magnum sizes, plus double magnum and (I think) imperial.
Now that would be fun to try and pour from.

Re: Latest buy
The shape looks about as sensible as you might expect for something like this. (Although it is a shame they didn’t make a giant snake one like their signature hand-blown ones!). But according to the old amazon listing, its weight was 6.75kg so I guess it would be about 13kg when full (assuming the stopper would weigh quite a bit)? Not sure pouring from that would be a one-handed job!

Yes please. I even have an account with Seckford Wines in London if that works better than trying to ship to the US, though that does add considerable cost to then later get them to the US.

Went to see my cousin at Quinta do Bomfim and ended up getting some LBVs. Graham's 2015 and Warre's Unfiltered 2008. Threw a couple of Six Grapes into the mix, and I'm sipping one now. Good value.

I too have vested interest in that particular year and so like Glenn would be interested in coming to an arrangement (buy/trade) and also assisting Glenn on his side if practical.Glenn E. wrote: ↑21:14 Thu 20 May 2021Yes please. Thanks.
I've already made inquiries regarding the current reliability and potential customs costs of sending things to the UK, should get an answer tomorrow.

Chris I tried to pm you but won't go out of my outbox! Sempe are the producers and as per my pm (if it ever gets to you) Won't sell to TPF members as I want to cover the cost of the other bottles and I don't take profit from you all as I rely on TPF for advice etc.
Re: Latest buy
I've had that happen as well (the outbox thing). Not sure what it means (has the message not reached the recipient? Have they received it but not read it?).
Re: Latest buy
PMs stay in your Outbox until the recipient reads them. It's a weird quirk of phpBB.
