An old friend emailed me yesterday to say "I'm planning to drink some Calem 1985 this weekend, how far in advance should I open it?" I was able to give him the latest gen. from Julian's note.
Then, at dinner last night, someone produced Calem 1985 to end the meal. It really was almost identical to the description in Julian's note.
Dark red, 70% opaque. Dry throughout the palate, with dark cherries. Smooth, only moderately weighty, late very dry.
Unless one is a fan of very old dry port, I think this is as good as it is going to get, and indeed might have been better five years ago.
