Does data flow up or down when loading?

KillerB: I’m aiming to hold these in tables in a spreadsheet. But I structure the tables like those in a relational database: tables have names; columns=fields have names; and columns in one table allow lookup in another table. So the data can later be poured, with not too much difficulty, into a formal database. But that probably won’t be necessary.

Re: tables in a spreadsheet
This is intersting. I have always perceived data loading as being an action which happens in an upward direction. I am not surprised that Jdaw and I have different perceptions.jdaw1 wrote:the data can later be poured, with not too much difficulty, into a formal database.

Is your data typically stored in a remote server? If so, the ‘uploading’ of the sending might affect your perception. I try to store things locally where possible — which might affect mine.Derek T. wrote:I have always perceived data loading as being an action which happens in an upward direction.

Dear Grandma, see this egg
Good grief, no, "pouring into a database" is a term used by the same team that developed relational databases at Cambridge University. This team also put together the full terminology for use with said databases, culminating in the release of DB2 and the first fully functional SQL language in 1983.Derek T. wrote:This is intersting. Or was it the Cambridge Tiddly Winks Club? Always get the two mixed up.
