I picked up a copy of Decanter magazine’s December issue from Smiths a couple of days ago, mainly to read the article by Richard Mayson on “The Finest Ports for All Seasons”.
His guide and recommendations cover most tastes, palates and timescales with his tips being:
- Churchill Dry White
- Sandeman 40YO
- Real Companhia Velha 1927 Tawny
- Taylor’s Single Harvest Tawny 1896
- Graham’s 1985
- Noval 2007 Colheita
- Noval 2019
- Kopke 10YO
- Quinta da Corte 20YO
- Ramos Pinto 2015 LBV
- Sandeman Imperial Reserve
- Warre Cavadinha 2005
- Taylor Vargellas 2008
- Fonseca Crusted 2015, and
- Graham Six Grapes
There’s a few wines there I’ve not tasted but might keep an eye out for like the Sandeman Imperial Reserve.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
