1966 Dow

A bottle purchased from Berry Brothers, who were selling the stock of a deceased customer on behalf of the family. This bottle had been bought on release and stored with Berry's until collected by me in 2009. The bottle had a high fill and a very firm cork.

Lovely mature brick red appearance, 50% opaque. Rich and complex nose of spiced plumped dried fruit. Such amazing complexity on the palate; dried cherries, nutmeg and cinnamon, a touch of cedar and hints of tannins. Layer after layer of flavour with a balance that is just exquisite. A slight dryness to the aftertaste and a red liquorice finish measured in minutes. This is a magnificent Port which is better now than it was 1-2 hours after being decanted. 95/100. Drunk 21-Nov-21. Decanted 1 day.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
