2000 Cockburn

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Ck00, decanted 2 hours. Deep black black-toned red, opaque centre and a narrow rim. Initially the nose was full of fruit, but earthy and muddy with lots of bake. This didn’t clear up much over the course of a couple of hours. The bake and earthiness initially dominated the blackcurrant fruit on the palate but the two hours in the decanter allowed the bake to integrate into the fruit to deliver a deep, powerful blackcurrant with just a hint of black chocolate. The fruit dominated the aftertaste, like concentrated blackcurrant fruit juice, with hints of black chocolate on the finish. The earthiness of the nose and fruit is disappointing and distracting, but otherwise this is a nice drink. 87/100. Drunk 06-May-2022.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
