Graham's 2011, 1 case of 6.
From a speculative BBX bid that I'd long forgotten about, so pretty happy with the price (and of course, provenance).

6x Vesuvio 1998. £33 each from BBX (a winesearcher notification pinged me).
Tasting notes on this are fairly divided, but sounds like it’s drinking well now and could go another 20 years tops - in which case I’ll work my way through it in that timeframe. But anybody with experience please let me know if you disagree.

Re: Latest buy
Sainsburys dropped their price on the Graham’s Crusted to £13 (actually £12 in the store that I visited) so I bought all they had (8) as I bought a few before Christmas and I gave away a few to friends (how sad am I? Still trying to convert them to the dark side!) and they all said it went down well (I suspect there may have been some cloves lemon and hot water involved
Anyway the packaging and labelling was totally different (green box creamy coloured labels as opposed to orange surround and white labels at Christmas; was this very old stock?

Re: Latest buy
I think the green box is the old packaging for the Graham Crusted. I seem to remember being in Booth’s many years ago and buying Graham 2002 Crusted in those green boxes.

Re: Latest buy
I think the old green box was in use right up until the 2013 Crusted release in the last 2 years. which must have a split run to allow it to change to the Graham’s 200 Years celebration packaging with the orange wood and white cardboard label.Alex Bridgeman wrote: ↑06:38 Fri 13 May 2022 I think the green box is the old packaging for the Graham Crusted. Re: Latest buy
Thanks Alex. I've had them before and they're very good. They came up at auction and there were no bids so I got them at a very attractive price. The bottles are in pristine condition. I sold a few to a fellow FTLOP member here in Jersey that has tastings from time to time.Alex Bridgeman wrote: ↑08:31 Wed 13 Jul 2022Just spotted the case of 12 bottles of the GM86. I left 59 bottles behind!
Re: Latest buy
Not even a shelf label at my local Sainsbury's, just the Malvedos. The nearest one I can think of that might range Graham's Crusted is Camden but given the location I expect it will have been cleared a while back - still at £10 might be worth a look. Another possibility might be Hendon.
Failing that I could easily take ten @ £10 cash if somebody want the Nectar points. I can collect from London so please PM if you can help me out...

I thought the producers had to declare a vintage within a certain period of time? I take it that doesn't mean said vintage needs to come to market though.Delinquent wrote: ↑14:55 Mon 18 Jul 2022 The source is 100% reliable - no doubt. There is a story to this bottle... How is it?

Yes, definitely. Cockburn 1977 became an official declaration in, ooh, about 2017.mosesbotbol wrote: ↑18:45 Mon 18 Jul 2022I thought the producers had to declare a vintage within a certain period of time? I take it that doesn't mean said vintage needs to come to market though.

Re: Latest buy
To be factually correct. The Syms didn’t “find” bottles in the cellar. The stocks being stored by the previous owners were known and included part of the purchase price, as with everything else when one buys a large business.Delinquent wrote:Here are the pictures as requested:jdaw1 wrote: ↑10:59 Sun 17 Jul 2022Cockburn 1974? When was this bottle bought and where is a better question?
Re: Latest buy
1977 Cockburn was a special case because the "secret" was so widely known. Without that common knowledge of its existence, and the circumstances surrounding it, there is little doubt in my mind that they would not have been allowed to "declare" it so late.jdaw1 wrote: ↑23:29 Mon 18 Jul 2022Yes, definitely. I helped Miguel Corte-Real drink his last two private cellar bottles of the not-yet-declared 1977 Cockburn, and our group talked about the early 1970s leading up to 1977 in great detail. He didn't mention a 1974 at that time.
