1980 Offley

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at JDAW's Cellar Reduction Dinner on 16th February 2022.

Mature red colour, richly toned; 60% opaque. Nose showing sweetened cranberry, nicely fragrant. Restrained fruit with chalky tannins sitting in the cranberry. The palate takes time to grow and show it's layers. A big aftertaste and fantastic cranberry finish. A wine which is still very youthful; a very impressive wine which needs to be allowed to mature a few more years to hit its peak. I loved this wine. 92/100. Drunk 16-Feb-22. Decanted 3½ hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

55% opcaity, dark red. Lively nose, red fruits. Full mouthfeel, good balance, dark red fruits. Nice but undistinctive.
