1997 Dow

Post by winesecretary »

p'n'd'n'p

90 per cent opaque, fading to a mid purple only half a centimetre from the rim.

Very primary nose - blind I would have thought 15 years younger. Exuberant blue fruited TN. Blackcurrant. Just a few spicy aroma notes that might suggest a not-very-young age.

Palate reveals rich sweet blackcurrant vitamin d pastilles on entry before the sloe gin and chocolate arrive in turn and then drying interestingly, and quite sharply, to a charcteristically Dow finish which persists for about a minute.

This is a very good bottle of port. Young - plateau is fifteen or twenty years away - but very good.

Lost the blue fruit notes. Gained a hint of tobacco. Still very good.
