1920 Burmester Novidade

Bottle labelled ""Burmester Novidade 1920"", not known whether this was a vintage Port or a colheita but judged by the flavour profile to be colheita (unknown bottling date). Opened at 17.00, decanted at 19.00 and drunk at 22.25. Served blind, I guessed this to be the Valriz 40yo tawny. Bottling date unknown. Opened at 17.30, decanted at 19.00. Deep amber in colour, 50% tobacco. A lovely toffee and orange fudge nose - rich and effusive. Smooth and rounded palate, lots of orange and hints of golden syrup; nicely integrated vinagrinho. Very good acidity keeps the mouthfeel fresh, with the focus on the fruit. Lovely citrus lemon and lime aftertaste. Fine finish, lingering and delicious. Lovely, but not better than a good 40yo. 90/100. Drunk 10-Oct-22. Decanted 3½ hours.
