1948 Taylor

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at dinner at Solar do Forcado in Portalegre.

Taylor 1948, a bottle from a parcel known to be in good condition. Decanted 14 hours. Dusty cherry nose. Delightful texture, sweet cherry fruit with a wonderful tingle of ground peppercorn. Good acidity. Warm with the alcohol giving a lovely menthol heat. Menthol and spearmint on the aftertaste, aniseed finish. Great length. 93/100.

With another 30 minutes in the glass this wine opened up and filled out to deliver a better balanced experience. Score upgraded to 95/100. Drunk 11-Oct-22.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
