1892 Unknown (Bottled by Guillot Brasseur Feurs)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From Wolfgang Starz. French bottled in an Alsace 70cl bottle bearing a crest reading "Guillot Brasseur Feurs (Loire)", hard brown wax capsule, handwritten label reading "Porto 1892".

There was some discussion as to whether this was a white Port, but to my taste (and to Oscar's) this smelt and tasted more like an oxidised Vintage Port. Some citrus tones on the palate implied some barrel aging before the wine was bottled. The finish was very impressive, long and full fo orange oil. Despite the oxidation, this was a very nice wine. 87/100. 15-Dec-22. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

15% opacity, amber. Wood and almonds on the nose. Citrus edge, syrupy, almonds, slightly dry finish. Maybe a white port?
