1985 Fonseca
Decanted at 18.00 the prior day, tasted at 20.30. Fabulously deep red in colour, opaque with a medium rim. Full of dark red fruit and black cherry on the nose, effusive and welcoming. Balanced entry on the palate with mature and gently spicy redcurrant jelly. The balance of the wine is impressive, the wine manages to be youthful but also show elements of secondary tones. The finish is full of a lovely red jelly fruit finish with the tannins almost hidden. This is such a special wine. 93/100. Tasted 17-Jan-23.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports, except a good bottle of Fonseca 1927. Wow!
