Another bottle from the same case as this.
Popped, decanted, poured. Cork fell apart; lots of sediment.
Very light for a ‘77 - 40%? opaque; pale red, moving towards brown; wide, watery rim.
Nose fairly closed; could probably do with a couple of hours post decant, but already in the glass. Some vegetal notes - fresh green pepper definitely there.
In the mouth, a bit more advanced. No primary fruit, now figs, licorice, and possibly some orange peel. Good balance of soft tannin and acidity. Medium long.
Overall, quite nice but not one for the long term. Drink soon.
Opened & started 6th April 2023. If I remember will update with progress over the Easter weekend.

Re: 1977 Royal Oporto
+24 hours - thought this might last the weekend, but will definitely be done tonight (7th April).
Nose has opened up a bit. The green pepper has gone, now some red fruit. Possibly a slight orange peel note.
Palate as before, except that the acid is a bit more in evidence now.
Still quite nice, but conclusion unchanged.
