1982 Warre Cavadinha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

W82, decanted 1 day. Dark brick red in colour, 80% opaque. Eucalyptus and lime oil on the nose, pronounced and with none of the expected red or black fruit. Hollow on entry, warm mid-palate and gradually starting to show bramble and redcurrant jelly. With enough patience the palate develops a remarkable presence, full of black fruit. Black Fruit Pastille aftertaste and a lovely long mint and mandarin finish; a finish with an impressive length! Much better at the end of the mouthful than the beginning. Marked down because of the lack of consistency between the entry on the palate and the finish. 87/100.

Tasted at the Warre Cavadinha Vertical on 28th March 2023.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

45% opacity, mature red, slightly cloudy. Nose has red fruit but covered by a metallic note. Soft, red fruit, a bit one-dimensional and lacking some acidity to give balance and backbone.
