2004 Warre Cavadinha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

WC04, decanted 1 day. A lovely dark rose red colour with a medium rim. A remarkable nose of blueberry conserve, sweet and fragrant but without any of the balance usually found on the nose of fruit-forward young vintage Port. Fruit slow to show on the palate, dominated at first by the tannic core which hides the potential red plum and blueberry. Dry and a little unbalanced. Bright aftertaste, cocoa and blueberry finish. I’d like to visit this again in 5 years to see if it opens up and gets to be a better balanced Port. For now, this gets a score of 85/100.

Tasted at the Warre Cavadinha Vertical on 28th March 2023.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

WC04. Dark dark dark red, 80% opaque. Very soft, with black fruits. Liked, lots.
