Wood. Treacle. Figs. Citrus. Really lovely balance.
A better madeira than the 1877 Terrantez tasted alongside, although the Terrantez was a more astonishing drink.
Consumed 23/5/23

My, oh my! Sometimes you have the opportunity to taste a wine and just fall in love. So complex, such a range of citrus fruit peel. If this was in a jar and not a bottle it would be spread on toast for breakfast every morning.
Leacock Bual 1914: in barrel 65 years and in bottle 45 years; decanted 6 weeks; deep brown colour, 70% opaque. Massive marmite nose, so expressive! Smooth entry on the palate, rounded and beautifully balanced with marmite and mushroom. The balance is incredible with a little sweetness showing through the powerful acidity. Mouth-filling aftertaste, hints of honey with plenty of citrus oil - but every form of citrus you can imagine! Wonderful acidity, wonderful citrus; wonderful wine! 97/100. Tasted 23-May-23. Decanted 6 weeks.

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

I should add - 35 day decant from which it distinctly benefitted. Straight out of the bottle it tasted like tea steeped with iodine.
