Cliff decided that we needed a Celebration of 1955, and volunteered many many bottles. Harry organised. Others were grateful. It started at lunchtime, on Tuesday 13th June 2023, at the Boot & Flogger.
Bottled by Newcastle Breweries. Brick red colour, very slightly cloudy with a fine sediment in the wine. Slightly baked tone to the fruit on the nose, but attractive despite that slightly baked suggestion - think about baked rhubarb. The nose is delicious as well as balanced. The palate is a little drier than expected from the nose and a little lighter than many of the other 1955 Vintage Ports featured at this tasting. A bit baked, but rather a nice wine despite this. 90/100. Tasted 13-Jun-23.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
