1977 Graham

Post by winesecretary »

I have been missing port as am currently largely separated from my cellar. But had this to hand.

Popped decanted given an hour and then poured

A full pigeon’s blood ruby with only slight paling at rim

Quite a hot nose with the fortifying spirit showing in the herbaceous element

Very sweet strawberry fruit on the mid palate.

A remarkably youthful bottle - I am not sure I would have put this earlier than 1992 blind.

Very good but not amazing port. Balance (currently) imperfect.

Consumed in part 9/7/23

+ 24 hrs

A little lighter

Nose much more beguiling than yesterday, sweet maraschino

Palate sweet maraschino before the tinned strawberries come in

Finish overly sweet and confected

Tannins all gone

Best with a 12 hour decant, but don’t leave longer?

Finished 10/7/23
