1985 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

What would you get if you made an alcoholic drink from black cherries and liquorice root? Answer: Fonseca 1985!

I've jumped on the band-wagon. Everyone has been opening one of these recently. This is a big wine, dark red, full of fruit. The tannins are nicely resolved and the combination of different fruits delivers a fabulous mouthful of youthful Port, just starting to develop some roundness and maturity. The black cherry and liquorice on the aftertaste and long finish are so impressive! Positively scrumptious. 91/100. Drunk 10-Jan-24. Opened and drunk in a bit of a rush so only decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
