1958 Borges, by the glass from the Garrafeira Nacional Mercado Ribeira, €45 for a 50ml sample. Rich golden orange colour, 30% opaque. A lovely nose of bitter-sweet orange oil. Slightly thickened texture on the palate; rich, bitter orange oil giving an impressive density of fruit on the palate. The dense orange oil dominates the aftertaste and creates an interesting orange-caramel interplay on the good length finish. Much less tertiary than the 1958 Real Companhia Velha tasted the previous day, this is an impressive and serious Vintage Port holding well on to its secondary plateau. 87/100. Tasted 02-Mar-2024.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
