1970 Sandeman

Post by winesecretary »

Pop and decant and pour.

A mid red, no opacity, yellow rim, fully mature colour

Red cherries and almond blossom on the nose

Honey, redcurrants, raspberry licorice on palate.

Finish fairly dry. Tannins largely resolved. A little dry tickle at end.

Truly lovely port.

Ex Blenheim cellars.

Ooh - haven't tried these yet, but that's encouraging.
Looking forward to wider Blenheim Palace tasting.

Has darkened, now a deep garnet and 30% opaque.

More redcurrant and black cherry than red cherry on the nose; a hint of prune late.

Still a honeyed mouthfeel; actually, it’s changed very little on the palate. Perhaps a touch more Lindt 80% on the finish.

Still dry on the finish, but some black cherry sweetness very late.

This isn’t just very good, it’s also jolly interesting. More akin to Dow than any of the richer houses.
