Spotted on the dessert menu at Pizza na Pedro in Olhao in the Algarve, I decided to take a punt on this as I'd never heard of the producer before.
Fully opaque in the "romantically" lit dining area, this looks like a very young VP, which isn't that much of a surprise at a sprightly 9 years old.
Red fruit and maybe blueberries on the nose, very light sweetness being hinted at. A minerality that suggests it could be a bit of a tannic beast.
On the palate the blueberry comes through again, maybe with a little soft red cherry note. A little toffee on the mid palate followed by a wave of eucalyptus and drowned in tannins - this is still very young and could absolutely take a lot more time in bottle if given the chance. The finish is very dry and not particularly long.
This is a pleasant port and while not from a celebrated house or vintage it's enjoyable in its current state. Maybe I should seek them out when I get to Porto...
2015 Quinta Seara d'Ordens
Re: 2015 Quinta Seara d'Ordens
I went to university with the son of the owners, and he's now very involved in the winemaking (we did oenology together). They're a very decent producer. Their table wines are hit and miss, but their Ports are of a very consistent quality. Not top tier but very decent.

That's good to hear. I enjoyed it but I thought it was far too young to be opened now, it has a lot more time in it. Do they have a place in Porto, or just up in the Douro?MigSU wrote:I went to university with the son of the owners, and he's now very involved in the winemaking (we did oenology together).
