2000 Dow

Post by jdaw1 »

As organised by George G., on Monday 10th February 2025, Some of the usual folks gathered in the Boot & Flogger, for a horizontal of 2000s.

Woe betide! What has become of us‽ A horizontal of Port from this century. Yes yes, the world has other disasters afoot, but this disaster is afoot here: what has become of us‽

D00. Dark red, 90% opaque. At the start of the evening not right. But it came good with time — perhaps more air contact, perhaps taster contact with alcohol.

Full rich red. Palate's good - some nice cherry fruit. But quite brutal, early. Gets much better, later. Will one day be very good.

D00: More mature in appearance than most wines at this 2000 tasting; attractive nose, perfumed and lovely. Just as lovely on the palate - generous fruit with tannins mostly resolved, held together by the acidity. Delightful floral fruit on the aftertaste and finish. Really lovely. 95/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
